A Big Plainsmen Welcome

to

Kent Meador

Varsity Head Coach

Coach Kent Meador returns to his home town of Lubbock in his first year as head coach at Lubbock Monterey.  After graduating from Coronado High School in 1983, Coach Meador attended Point Loma College in San Diego, California, followed by Texas Tech University.  In addition to pursuing higher education, he also enjoyed playing baseball for both programs.  He graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelors Degree in education in 1988, and then began his teaching/coaching career at Irons Junior High in 1989.  One of the greatest honors of his career was receiving the opportunity to start his baseball coaching career at Lubbock Coronado as an assistant for his high school coach and mentor John Dudley.  He received his first head baseball coaching position at Amarillo Tascosa in 1994.  Coach Meador spent six wonderful years in Amarillo where he received the District 3-5A Coach of the Year honor in 1997.  The Meador family then moved to Houston, Texas in 2000 to take over the baseball program at Westfield High School in Spring ISD.  In 2003, Coach Meador accepted the head coaching position at Klein Collins High school in Klein ISD, where he guided Collins to an impressive overall record of 153-62 in his six seasons.  During that period, Collins High School played in the state semi-finals in 2007 and the regional finals in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Coach Meador has been named district Coach of the Year five times in his fifteen year career, and he was named the Greater Houston coach of the Year in 2005.  In addition to his contribution to Texas high school baseball, Coach Meador received the honor to travel to Europe where he coached the 2007 Polish Junior National 18 and Under National team, a position he held for 2 years.  In 2009, he became part of the USA baseball staff where he coached in the 18 and Under Tournament of Stars in Carey, North Carolina.

Coach Meador has been married to his beautiful wife Leslie for 22 years.  She is currently employed by the LISD as the registrar at Coronado High School.  Coach Meador shares a little about his wife:  "She is more beautiful and wonderful today than when we first met at church when I was three and she was five."  The Meador's are the proud parents of sixteen year-old Blain Meador.  Blain is a sophomore at Monterey and is part of the Plainsmen golf program.

Coach Meador considers it a once-in-a-lifetime blessing from God to receive to opportunity to return to Lubbock.  having his family so close has been an experience that has been priceless for all involved.  His enthusiasm is clear as he shares his excitement: "the honor of being the fourth coach in the fifty plus years of tradition which is Monterey Plainsmen baseball is one that I will cherish and guard with all the abilities and humbleness that God has instilled in me.  I feel a burning desire and responsibility to reclaim Monterey's traditional spot as the top program in West Texas and one of the storied and perennial forces in the state of Texas".
